Incorporate Exercise into your Day

Working out does not have to be a chore you might be dreading. You do not have to drive to the gym to get your daily exercise. Try incorporating activities into your daily schedule. Here are just a few ideas how to sneak in a little physical activity into your busy schedule:

  • Do push-ups and sit-ups before you take a shower in the morning while you wait for the water to warm up

  • Do a wall-sit while brushing your teeth

  • Do lunge walks around your place to get from room to room

  • Walk or ride your bike to the grocery store and to run other errands

  • Park your car further away from the entrance of a store or your work

  • Get up from your chair every hour and walk a couple of minutes

  • Walk to your coworkers desk instead of calling or emailing her/him

  • Go for a walk during your lunch break. Take a co-worker with you. Chat, bounce off ideas - you never know who you are inspiring.

  • When you get home after work, do not just sit on the couch and turn on the TV. Instead, do some housework, yard work, take your kids outside and play with them.

  • Or: Invest in a treadmill or stationary bike and exercise while watching TV, do jumping jacks during commercials

  • Do you have a dog? If yes, excellent! Take your furry friend for long walks. They will love it and you are getting those much needed extra steps (remember, recommended are 10,000 steps a day - every day!)

Do not have a dog? No problem! Ask your neighbors if you can walk their dog! :-)

  • Have to go grocery shopping? Great! Walk down every aisle. Bring in your shopping bags one by one to get those steps in. Do as many trips as possible.

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator

  • Even house cleaning can turn into a sneaky little workout if you step it up a notch… turn on some good music and dance to it while you clean and scrub

…get creative and move whenever you can!
